The 3rd
Convocation of Ahsanullah University of Science and Technology (AUST)
was held on Sunday, 09 November 2008 at 11:30 A.M. at the
Bangladesh-China Friendship Conference Center, Dhaka.
A total number of
1650 were conferred bachelors and masters degrees in seven disciplines
including Architecture, Civil Engineering, Computer Science and
Engineering, Electrical and Electronic Engineering, Textile
Technology, Business Administration and Education. Seven students were
awarded Khan Bahadur Ahsanullah Padak for their outstanding academic
performances. The venue was adorned with a festive mood.
Prof. Dr. Iajuddin
Ahmed, Hon’ble President of the People’s Republic of Bangladesh and
Chancellor, AUST presided over the ceremony. Justice ATM Afzal, Former
Chief Justice of Bangladesh graced the occasion as Convocation
Speaker.
Prof. Dr. M. Anwar
Hossain, Vice-Chancellor, AUST and Mr. Kazi Rafiqul Alam, President,
Dhaka Ahsania Mission and President and Syndicate Chairman, AUST also
spoke on the occasion.
Professor Nazrul
Islam, Chairman, University Grants Commission, Prof. Dr. Kazi Shariful
Alam, Treasurer, AUST, Deans of the Faculties, AUST, Distinguished
Vice-Chancellors of other Universities, Members of the AUST Syndicate,
Academic Council, Finance and Development Committee, Teachers and
Officers, Parents and Guardians of the Graduating Students were
present on the solemn occasion.
Referring to the
necessity of acquiring science and technological education in the
present era of globalization, President Prof. Iajuddin Ahmed said
science and technological education is of paramount importance to meet
the demands of the 21st century. In this context he said,
universities would have to provide modern curricula and congenial
atmosphere to impart quality education.
Welcoming the new
graduates, the President urged them to uphold the truth and justice at
every sphere of their life keeping national interest above. “I hope
you are capable enough to shoulder the responsibilities for developing
our country in diverse fields, He said. “ I believe your sincere
efforts, honest persuasion and social commitment would surely help in
building a happy and prosperous Bangladesh”.
Prof. Dr. M. Anwar
Hossain, Vice-Chancellor in his speech said, “Ahsanullah University of
Science and Technology has been always very keen to impart quality
education to meet the needs of our society in the perspective of
highly competitive and globalized world. In today’s knowledge-based
development and global job market there is no alternative to quality
at all level of education. We look forward to produce graduates
equipped with knowledge and skill appropriate to the fast changing
world so that they can meet the challenges successfully wherever they
are and contribute to the economy of the country in a humble way.
Ahsanullah University of Science and Technology has already
established itself as one of the leading private universities in
Bangladesh and it will soon develop into a centre of excellence of
international standard.”
He advised the
graduates not to forget their Alma Mater and their country. He further
added that they have to take responsibility for future generations of
Bangladesh as was done by our predecessors. He wished them successful
career and accomplished life.
He thanked the
Hon’ble Chancellor, distinguished guests and audience for spending
some of their valuable time to share the moments of joy and happiness
of AUST.
Mr. Kazi Rafiqul
Alam, President, Dhaka Ahsania Mission and President and Syndicate
Chairman, AUST said, “Today is a special day for all of us who are
involved in establishing and developing this University. But today is
a very special day particularly for the young graduates who are going
to receive ceremonially their degrees from the Hon’ble Chancellor. We
are confident that the quality of education this university had
imparted will definitely enable these young graduates to establish
themselves as a valuable member of the society glorifying the face of
Bangladesh both home and abroad. Our sincerest prayers go with them so
that Almighty Allah bless them with a very hon’ble and productive
life.
Justice ATM Afzal
said, “There is need to support the private universities which deserve
it by their record of performance, but there is stronger need to weed
out the commercial outlets which are doing more harm than good.”
Mr. Kazi Rafiqul
Alam as the President and Syndicate Chairman of the University handed
over a Crest to the Hon’ble President of the People’s Republic of
Bangladesh and Chancellor, AUST on behalf of the University.
The program was
successfully ended at 12:20 P.M.
Following the
Convocation a dinner was arranged at night at the University Campus
where graduates and distinguished guests participated.
