THE UNIVERSITY
 

The Ahsanullah University of Science and Technology (AUST) was established in 1995 under the sponsorship of the Dhaka Ahsania Mission (DAM) in accordance with the private University Act 1992 of Bangladesh. It aims to offer programs covering all important fields and disciplines of science, technology, engineering, business, social science and architecture including teachers' training. Also, the objective of the University is to provide quality education to meet the needs of the society in the perspective of highly competitive and globalized world. Bachelor degree programs are now being conducted in 8 disciplines under three faculties - Faculty of Architecture and Planning, Faculty of Business and Social Science and Faculty of Engineering, while master degree programs are being conducted under the Faculty of Business & Social Sciences and the Faculty of Education, MS in Engineering (CE) in the faculty of Engineering and MS in MATHEMATICS IN THE DEPARTMENT OF ARTS AND SCIENCES. These degrees are recognized by the Government, the Public Service Commission and employers at home and abroad. At present the university is proud to be acknowledged as one of the leading private universities in Bangladesh. The newly built spacious permanent campus of the university consisting of a picturesque 10-storied fully air-conditioned building with a total floor area of more than four lac square feet over five bighas of land is located in the heart of Dhaka city.

THE DEPARTMENT OF ARTS AND SCIENCES
  

The Department of Arts and Sciences was established in 1995 with the aim of teaching courses in Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry, English, Economics and Sociology for Engineering and Architecture departments. During the last 15 years it has grown into a rich department having 51 full-time teachers. All the teachers have excellent academic background with good reputations. Many of them have teaching experiences in public universities in the country and in universities abroad. Also some of them have the experience of M.Phil/Ph.D guides in Mathematics in Public universities in the country. Besides a number of highly qualified part-time teachers from Dhaka University and BUET have been teaching in each semester. The Department of Arts and Sciences has introduced M.S Program in Mathematics starting from spring 2010 which is approved by the UGC Bangladesh and presently a number of good students are studying

in this program. The MS will have specialization in Applied Mathematics, Computing Mathematics, Financial Mathematics and Bio-Mathematics. The authority has a plan to introduce M.Phil/Ph.D programs in Mathematics too. The aim is to produce quality specialists in the field.

 

ADMISSION REQUIREMENT

Minimum requirement for admission into M.S. program in Mathematics is a four year or three year B.Sc. degree in Mathematics or equivalent from a recognized university. Students with 'Appeared Certificate' can get admitted provisionally into MS Program. 

ADMISSION PROCEDURE:  A student who fulfils the minimum requirement for admission into M.S. Class in Mathematics can apply for admission. For this he has to apply in the prescribed form available in the office of the Registrar, AUST, after the publication of the admission notice. The filled - in application form along with the necessary documents is to be submitted within the notified date. No admission test is required. Candidates are selected for admission on the basis of their past academic records. 

DURATION OF THE M.S. PROGRAM: The duration of the M.S. Program in Mathematics is 1 academic year consisting of 2 semesters for the students having four year B.Sc and Two years (4 semesters) for the students having three year B.Sc. and others. Classes will be held on Friday and in the evening of other days. 

MEDIUM OF INSTRUCTION:    ENGLISH. 

INTERNATIONAL RELATION

 A number of memorandum of understanding have been signed between the Ahsanullah University of Science and Technology and (i) the University of Wyoming, USA, (ii) the Drexel University, USA, (iii) the Washington State University, USA and (iv) the University of Houston, Texas, USA, (v) University of Michigan, USA, (vi) AIT, Bangkok, (vi) Sejong University, Seoul, Korea, (vii) Dublin City University ( in process) so that the students of this university have the opportunity of higher studies or further study with transfer of credits. Similar arrangements are being made with other universities of USA, Australia, UK and Canada. This university (AUST) has a partnership agreement with nine European universities under EMMA (Erasmus Mundus Mobility for Asia) program. Professor Dr. M. Shahabuddin is the Co-ordinator for AUST. Under this program a good number of faculty members and students are now studying in nine European Universities for higher degree with full scholarship.  

REGARDING TUITION FEE:

Considering the financial position of the students willing to study Mathematics, the authority of AUST is pleased to announce that a student can get 50%  ~ 100% waiver of the total tuition fees depending on their GPA or equivalent results obtained in Bachelor or equivalent degree. Payment may be in installments. For detail information regarding tuition fees and other facilities, the interested students can visit the head or coordinator of MS program in the Department of Arts and Sciences as given below:
